The Waterbury Career Academy Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. Their rough 69-44 defeat to Seymour might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Waterbury Career Academy in their matchups with Seymour: they've now lost four in a row.
Waterbury Career Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malahzia Weaver, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Janele Lawrence, who scored 11 points.
Leading Seymour to victory were Skylar Barton and Jillian Keough. Barton dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Keough almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists. Keough has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Cunningham, who scored five points along with 12 rebounds.
Waterbury Career Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-5. As for Seymour, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waterbury Career Academy will stay at home for another game and welcome Crosby at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Seymour will take on Oxford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
