Basketball Recap: Wharton Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jameir Hearne-Robinson and Brandon Sims

Wharton has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to the Lamar Consolidated Mustangs on the road by a 60-45 margin on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 356th, while the Mustangs are ranked 979th).

Wharton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brandon Sims, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 13 points and eight rebounds, and Jameir Hearne-Robinson, who posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals. Hearne-Robinson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacoryan Dickerson, who put up six points.

Edgar Garcia continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lamar Consolidated, going 11 of 15 on his way to 26 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Mason Lockett, who had 13 points.

Wharton's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Lamar Consolidated, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wharton Tigers duke it out with the La Marque Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lamar Consolidated, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ray at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
