Basketball Recap: Woodward Skates Past Withrow with Ease

You're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Woodward on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew the Withrow Tigers out of the water with a 56-15 final score. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 22 points or more this season.

Leading Woodward to victory were Leigha Acoff and Arielle Gee. Acoff went 7 for 10 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven assists and six boards, while Gee went 10 of 15 on her way to 21 points along with three steals and three blocks. Acoff is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Nyarie Bray was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Woodward smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Woodward's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Withrow, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Woodward will host Deer Park at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Withrow, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Taft at 6:30 p.m. on January 22, 2025.
