Fairview is 0-10 against Creek Wood since April of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets will challenge the Red Hawks at 5:30 p.m. Fairview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Fairview came up short against Montgomery Central and fell 10-7.
Abbie Hammon made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Grace Fox was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Creek Wood). Everything went their way against Harpeth on Monday as they made off with a 15-3 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Red Hawks considering their two-run performance the game before.
Aleigha McCord and Elizabeth Martin were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, McCord tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Martin tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McCord has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, McCord got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Martin went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most runs McCord has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Howell, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey England, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Creek Wood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 14-3 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Creek Wood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fairview, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Fairview hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Creek Wood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fairview suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Creek Wood in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
