Herriman is 2-8 against Bingham since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Miners at 3:30 p.m. Herriman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Herriman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Riverton, who was ranked first at the time (Herriman was ranked 23rd). The Mustangs skirted past the Silverwolves 6-5.
Ashlyn Beratto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on McKenzie Quintero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Sofia Lancaster was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bingham came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chargers a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Miners have won by exactly ten runs.
Not much got past Brecka Larson, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Corner Canyon off the board. Larson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Shyann Banasky was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Hintze, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Bingham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in six consecutive matchups.
Herriman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bingham, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7-2.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Herriman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Bingham struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Herriman took their win against Bingham in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 19-7 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Miners turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
