Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Jennings County Panthers walked away with it. They enjoyed a cozy 56-39 win over the Red Devils on Friday. Given Jennings County's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Jeffersonville is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jennings County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Juliann Woodard led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Woodard has scored at least a third of Jennings County's points. Another player making a difference was Alivia Elmore, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Jeffersonville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lakyra Johnson, who scored 16 points. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keziah Renee, who scored 12 points.
The victory (which was Jennings County's eighth in a row) raised their record to 23-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Jeffersonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.
Jennings County won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bedford North Lawrence at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Jennings County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.6 points per game this season. Jeffersonville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
