The Northside Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Hidden Valley Titans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Northside after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Lord Botetourt by a score of 8-7. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Brett Taylor made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Camden Spangler, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Hidden Valley entered their tilt with Glenvar on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Highlanders. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Titans have posted against the Highlanders since May 8, 2023.
Wyatt Clarke was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of William Woodson, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Hidden Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive games.
Northside's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-5. As for Hidden Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .334. However, it's not like Hidden Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northside beat Hidden Valley 9-4 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
