Deltona is 0-1 against Bishop Moore since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Deltona Wolves will look to defend their home field against the Bishop Moore Hornets at 7:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Deltona has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Bishop Moore will arrive with four straight victories.
Deltona fell victim to Mainland's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 65-0 loss at the hands of the Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, Deltona can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 398th, while Mainland is ranked 11th).
Meanwhile, Bishop Moore was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Orlando Christian Prep by a score of 25-15.
Bishop Moore's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gabriel Diaz, who gained 149 total yards and a touchdown, and Bjorn Jurgensen, who threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns while completing 76.5% of his passes. Diaz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards.
Deltona's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-2 Merritt Island and 5-3 Spruce Creek (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.2% over those games). As for Bishop Moore, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Things could have been worse for Deltona, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 26-12 loss to Bishop Moore in their previous meeting back in October of 2021. Can Deltona avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
