The Dyersburg Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the South Gibson Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dyersburg will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Dyersburg strolled past the Choctaws with points to spare, taking the game 40-25. Given Dyersburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Choctaws are ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kalli Maclin had an outrageously good game as she dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chelby Jordan, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, South Gibson came up short against the Pioneers on Friday and fell 41-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points South Gibson has scored all season.
South Gibson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jade Reed, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds, and Natalie Lewis who scored 14 points. Hallie Allen was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Dyersburg's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-3. As for South Gibson, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-11 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Dyersburg, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-53 loss to the Hornets in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Dyersburg avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
