The Galena Bulldogs couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 50-34 to Jefferson Independent Day.
Jefferson Independent Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabbi Hiebert led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 9 steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hiebert has scored at least 25% of Jefferson Independent Day's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lannah Grigg, who scored 13 points along with 9 rebounds.
Galena's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Jefferson Independent Day, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Galena will head out on the road to face off against Girard on Friday. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they will be playing at home against Everton at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Everton and Jefferson Independent Day are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
