The Liberty Redhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Centennial Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
Liberty fell victim to Wakeland's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 56-0 to the Wolverines, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 841st, while Wakeland is ranked 141st).
Meanwhile, Centennial also never made a goal in their most recent game. They had to suffer through a rough 42-0 loss at the hands of Wakeland. Centennial was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Liberty's defeat was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-1 Reedy and 6-1 Frisco (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.3% over those games). Centennial has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Liberty might still be hurting after the 38-13 defeat they got from Centennial when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Liberty, Naman Goyal (who rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 69 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
