Schlarman had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-11 to make it five. They came up short against the Watseka Warriors, falling 23-9. If the Hilltoppers were looking for revenge after losing 8-0 to the Warriors when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Miles Crosby put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Crosby was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Marc Villaester was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Schlarman is 2-1 when Villaester posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Grayson Kruger, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Watseka, their win bumped their record up to 7-13. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Like Schlarman, Watseka also got a great game from a two-way player: Andrew Shoemaker. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Shoemaker posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-6 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Watseka got a massive performance out of Seth Dirks, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave Dirks a new career-high in hits (three). Quinn Starkey was another key player, going 4-for-6 with five RBI and three runs.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Schlarman is set to face off against their familiar foe Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Watseka will challenge rival Milford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
