Silver Creek has gone 8-2 against Charlestown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Dragons will take on the Pirates at 8:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Silver Creek took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Columbus North 9-8.
Karmen McMillan looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Whitlock, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lola Hall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Silver Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Charlestown had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Cougars. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Hannah Burns spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Charlestown secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Avarie Freiberger, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Charlestown's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Silver Creek, their win bumped their record up to 18-10.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Silver Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Charlestown struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Silver Creek came up short against Charlestown in their previous meeting back in April, falling 8-5. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
