Sara Pinedo looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in hits (zero).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sofia Ramos, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Lucy Mitchell was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pacifica earned a 6-1 victory over Esperanza on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Mariners have won by exactly five runs.
Ellena Ediss spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mattea Stern was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Micheala Meza, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
El Modena pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pacifica, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.
Pacifica's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. El Modena has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Pacifica, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will El Modena keep running through batters, or will Pacifica buck the trend?
El Modena suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Pacifica in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can El Modena avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
