Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 16 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Corning Cardinals proved on Thursday. They came out on top against Clear Lake by a score of 61-54.
Corning had a senior duo take command as Jordon Morrow scored 22 points along with 8 rebounds and Roman Bennett scored 12 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jeff Mendros, who scored 12 points along with 5 assists and 4 steals.
Defeat or not, Clear Lake got some senior leadership from Cody Hayes who scored 21 points along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals and Jake Soderquist who scored 18 points.
The victory got Corning back to even at 1-1. As for Clear Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Corning will head out on the road to face off against Durham at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Durham focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Thursday.
