Having just played yesterday, the Freeman Scotties will get right back to it and host the Kellogg Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on December 28th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Freeman earned a 54-44 victory over Royal.
Freeman's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Natalie Semprimoznik, who scored 14 points, and Taylee Phelps, who scored 20 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Phelps has scored at least 25% of Freeman's points.
Kellogg has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season. They ended the year with a bang, routing Non Varsity Opponent 57-35. The win was some much needed relief for Kellogg as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kellogg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Macy Jerome led the charge by scoring 14 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Jerome set a new season high mark in steals with five. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Coe, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Freeman's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Kellogg, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's contest: Freeman have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Kellogg, though, as they've been averaging only 3.7 threes per game. Given Freeman's sizeable advantage in that area, Kellogg will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Freeman against Kellogg in their previous matchup back in December of 2019 as the squad secured a 57-28 win. Does Freeman have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kellogg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
