The Argyle Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Creekview Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Argyle has seven straight victories, Creekview has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Argyle got themselves on the board against Denton, but Denton never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Broncos 59-0 at home. Considering Argyle has won five matches by more than 29 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Argyle can attribute much of their success to Lane Stewart, who gained 101 total yards and three touchdowns, and Jake Krekeler, who rushed for 204 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Slaton, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Creekview had to settle for a 24-21 loss against Memorial last Thursday. That's two games in a row now that Creekview has lost by exactly three points.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dre Richardson, who rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Richardson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Gerrian Smith was in the mix too, providing Creekview with two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Creekview's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Destine Deans and his two sacks.
Argyle's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. As for Creekview, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.
Everything went Argyle's way against Creekview in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as Argyle made off with a 50-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Argyle since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
