The NorthWood Panthers will face off against the Wawasee Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
NorthWood's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Northridge. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Raiders on their field since May 10, 2022.
Not much got past Connor Reed, who gave up just three hits to keep Northridge off the board. Reed has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Dutkowski, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wawasee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Mishawaka, falling 13-3.
Wawasee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Byler, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Addison Coy was another, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Wawasee's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for NorthWood, their win bumped their record up to 5-3.
Wawasee's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: NorthWood hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. It's a different story for Wawasee, though, as they've only averaged .175. Will they be able to contain NorthWood's hitters?
NorthWood came out on top in a nail-biter against Wawasee in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
