The Edsel Ford Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to challenge the Roosevelt Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
On Saturday, Edsel Ford got the win against Jefferson by a conclusive 9-3. Considering the Thunderbirds have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Kowalsky tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tyler Zelek was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Harrison OConnor, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt was able to grind out a solid win over Lincoln Park on Thursday, taking the game 5-2.
Roosevelt also got a great performance from Ethan Ivity as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Ivity also allowed no hits, which is notable because the Bears are 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 8-10 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Peyton Webster, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Roosevelt is undefeated when Webster posts two or more runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Jack Halberstadt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Edsel Ford's record now sits at 16-8. As for Roosevelt, their record is now 10-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Edsel Ford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Edsel Ford couldn't quite finish off Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in April and fell 3-1. Can the Thunderbirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
