The Dan River Wildcats managed to keep up with the Chatham Cavaliers until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Dan River's tough 42-18 loss to Chatham might stick with them for a while. Dan River was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Chatham apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was D.j. Gregory, who rushed for 175 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Stanford Lipscomb, who threw for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Dan River's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Chatham, Altavista, and Magna Vista. As for Chatham, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Dan River will look to defend their home field on Friday against William Campbell at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (William Campbell is ranked 253rd, while Dan River is ranked 260th). As for Chatham, they will head out on the road to face off against Gretna at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
