Smyrna is 8-2 against Salesianum since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. Last Friday, Smyrna faced Sussex Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Smyrna managed a 40-35 victory over Sussex Central. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Smyrna.
Smyrna can attribute much of their success to Kahmaj Kearney, who rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Phoenix Henriquez did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 100 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Salesianum had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They blew past St. Mark's 47-12 on the road. Salesianum might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
Smyrna's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Salesianum, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Smyrna lost to Salesianum on the road by a decisive 28-12 margin when the teams last played back in September. Can Smyrna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
