A school and a player perhaps known more for their baseball exploits highlight this week's national high school football stat stars.
Cody Thomas, a quarterback out of Heritage (Colleyville, Texas), is also one of the top baseball players in the country and had the fourth-best performance of the week, according to statistics reported to MaxPreps. Thomas completed 22 of 30 passes for 465 yards and seven touchdowns in Heritage's 69-27 win over Grapevine.
Meanwhile, Sumrall (Miss.) places two players on this week's list. Sumrall, which twice earned honors from MaxPreps as the top baseball team in the country, had Will Simon throw for 446 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-58 victory over Bay Springs (Miss.). His top receiver, Austin Watts, caught 12 passes for 230 yards and all four scores.
The statistics for the national stat leaders are reported by the team coaches to MaxPreps.
