After five games on the road, Moore Catholic is heading back home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Kennedy Catholic Gaels at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Moore Catholic is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kennedy Catholic in New York (Moore Catholic is ranked 30th, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 133rd).
Moore Catholic's game on Saturday was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Sacred Heart Academy. The loss put an end to Moore Catholic's undefeated start to the season.
Despite the defeat, Moore Catholic got a solid performance out of Brianna Caliri, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. Caliri scored a full 38.3% of Moore Catholic's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mackenzie Felci was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Kennedy Catholic has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 20 points or more this season. They ended the year with a bang, routing South Glens Falls 63-43.
Moore Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 6-1. As for Kennedy Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Moore Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Kennedy Catholic in their previous meeting back in February, winning 61-52. Will Moore Catholic repeat their success, or does Kennedy Catholic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
