Westlake hasn't had much luck against Lehi recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Thunder will face off against the Pioneers at 3:30 p.m. Westlake will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Westlake is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Green Canyon by a score of 11-10 on Friday.
Westlake got a good showing from Max Loveless, who pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the first time Loveless hasn't allowed a single earned run since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Andrew Hernandez stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one stolen base. Those triples were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Lafferty, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Lehi faced Ridgeline in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Riverhawks with a sharp 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Sean Mcafee tossed a big game, tossing 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brandon Manookin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cole Ybarra, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Lehi always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Lehi and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Westlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.
Westlake suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to Lehi in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Thunder avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
