The Southern Indians will head out on the road to challenge the East Palestine Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern has given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Columbiana hit Southern with a nine-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians came up short against the Clippers, falling 12-2. The game marked the Indians' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Raelea Carosiello was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Palestine). They put the hurt on East with a sharp 20-6 victory on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.
Kennedy Andre was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, East Palestine got a massive performance out of Sydney Jurjavcic, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Jurjavcic a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddison Foster, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.
East Palestine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Southern now has a losing record of 6-7. As for East Palestine, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
Southern took their victory against East Palestine in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-5 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
