WATHENA, Kan. -
Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] (Wathena, Kan.) took an early lead against
Maur Hill Prep-Mount Academy (Atchison, Kan.) and held on for a 40-14 victory on Saturday.
The Cyclones scored 13 points in the first quarter. Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] scored on an
Andrae McGaughy touchdown run and a touchdown pass by McGaughy to
Colton Munger.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by McGaughy in the first quarter, RWE led 25-7 at the half.
The Wathena school expanded its lead to 26 points entering the fourth quarter. The Cyclones scored two times in the third, including once on a rushing touchdown.
When the two teams played each other last season, Riverside [Wathena/Elwood] came away with a 42-13 victory.
With the win RWE extended its winning streak to three games. The loss was the third in a row for the Ravens.
