The Sunrise Mountain Miners had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.2 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They slipped by Eldorado 36-35. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Auhsoj Cunningham had a dynamite game for Sunrise Mountain, rushing for 269 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 15.8 yards per carry. Cunningham was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 62 yards.
Several Sundevils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaeshawn West, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns. West hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Delgado, who picked up 68 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Sunrise Mountain's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.3 points per game. As for Eldorado, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Sunrise Mountain will take on Canyon Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Canyon Springs' favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three contests. Eldorado does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
