Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020-21 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Emma Calvert of
Fremont (Plain City) is the 2020-21 MaxPreps Utah High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4 senior center/power forward helped lead the Silverwolves to a 26-0 record and the Class 6A state championship.
Fremont will carry a No. 11 national ranking in the MaxPreps Top 25 into next week's GEICO Nationals tournament in Florida.
The state tournament MVP averaged 17.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season. Calvert converted on over 70 percent of her field goals attempts, shot just over 40 percent from beyond the arc and made more than 76 percent of her free throws.
During Calvert's four seasons, Fremont posted a 94-7 record overall and claimed two big school state titles in four years.
Headed to BYU next year, Calvert scored 1,641 points for her career as a four-year starter.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team.

Fremont went 94-7 during Emma Calvert's four years in the program.
