Plainfield South has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Plainfield South Cougars and the Beecher Bobcats will round out the year against one another at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Plainfield South struggled with assists last Saturday (Waubonsie Valley had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Plainfield South was outmatched by Waubonsie Valley at home and fell 79-51. While losing is never fun, Plainfield South can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Waubonsie Valley is ranked 16th).
Despite the defeat, Plainfield South got a solid performance out of Destynia Mcgruder, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. Mcgruder has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Niya Willis, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Beecher came up short against Clifton Central on Thursday and fell 45-32. Beecher has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Plainfield South's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-5. As for Beecher, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Plainfield South against Beecher when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 62-26 victory. Will Plainfield South repeat their success, or does Beecher have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
