The Granby Comets will face off against the Lightridge Lightning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Granby comes in on nine and Lightridge on 23.
Granby is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Ocean Lakes.
Kyrsten Wells spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kya Harris, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Maggie Wood, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Lightridge sidestepped Midlothian for a 4-3 victory.
Lightridge also let their pitcher toss all 11 innings and she was also dialed-in: Peyton Robinson gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Robinson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lightridge let Emmi Harris and Tiffany Van Ginkel run wild. Harris went 3-for-6 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Van Ginkel went 1-for-4 with one home run. Riley Thomas was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Lightridge's win bumped their record up to 23-0. As for Granby, their victory bumped their record up to 19-4.
Granby's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Comets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Lightridge, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Granby continue to outrun the ball?
