After flying high against the Torres Toros last Wednesday, the Maywood Academy Nighthawks came back down to earth. Maywood Academy was dealt a 92-48 defeat at the hands of Marquez on Friday. Maywood Academy has struggled against Marquez recently, as their contest on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Rodrigo Miranda and Edinson Castaneda certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Miranda scored nine points along with 12 assists, while Castaneda dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Miranda is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now racked up eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Camacho, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Marquez was led to victory by Julian Nunez and Lamont White Jr. Nunez scored 27 points along with four steals, while White Jr almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, nine assists, and 11 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nunez has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elyjah Staples, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Maywood Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for Marquez, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.
Maywood Academy will head out on the road to face off against Sotomayor at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sotomayor is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games. As for Marquez, they will face off against Walnut at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Walnut is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
