This season hasn't been kind to the Cummings Cavaliers, who are still winless after their tenth game. They took a serious blow against Southeast Alamance on Wednesday, falling 56-21. Cummings was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-8.
Southeast Alamance found their leader in underclassman Shaniya Paylor, who scored 14 points along with nine steals. Paylor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Inysia McIver, who scored 13 points.
Cummings bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.3 points per game. As for Southeast Alamance, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cummings' road trip will continue as they head out to face Jordan-Matthews at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Jordan-Matthews comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 20 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Southeast Alamance, they will head out on the road to square off against Chatham Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Chatham Central is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
