Kade KoselKe made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Dillon Stewart was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. Tri-Township is 3-1 when Stewart posts two or more runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Ethan Dailey was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs.
Tri-Township always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Hammond Academy of Science & Tech came tearing into Saturday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Blackhawks. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
Austin McKimmy was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Diego Patino, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
The win snapped Tri-Township's losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 5-12 record. As for Hammond Academy of Science & Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tri-Township has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hammond Academy of Science & Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 14.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tri-Township suffered a grim 17-7 defeat to Hammond Academy of Science & Tech in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
