Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Cocoa Beach Minutemen walked away with it. They managed a 45-39 win over the Wildcats on Monday. The victory was just what Cocoa Beach needed coming off of a 45-23 defeat in their prior contest.
Cocoa Beach's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophie Brownfield led the charge by scoring 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brownfield has scored all season. Lexie Overdorf was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Cocoa Beach now has a winning record of 13-12. As for West Shore, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
Cocoa Beach's road trip will continue as they head out to face Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cocoa Beach in Florida (Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy is ranked 128th, while Cocoa Beach is ranked 406th). West Shore does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
