Wilsonville were the big favorite in their most recent match, and for good reason. Everything came up roses for them against Forest Grove on Friday as the team secured a 53-6 victory. Followers of Wilsonville probably expected little less of the squad in a season in which they have collected four blowout victories.
The matchup started off well for Wilsonville, whose offense put up 48 first-half points. Meanwhile, Forest Grove couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 48-0 heading into the break. Although Wilsonville wound up losing the second-half battle, they still had enough in reserve to win the war.
Wilsonville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of senior Jonah Gomez, who snatched 3 receiving TDs and punched in 1 rushing TD, and senior Nathan Overholt, who passed for 198 yards and 4 touchdowns. The win bumped their record up to 5-0. The loss dropped Forest Grove's record to 3-2.
Next week Wilsonville take on Scappoose at 7:00 PM. Since neither squad is a stranger to landslide victories this season, you'd better bet it will be hard-fought showdown. Forest Grove will be staying on the road, facing off against Hillsboro. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so their meeting could be a low-scoring affair.
