Decatur Community hasn't had much luck against Quinter recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Decatur Community Red Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Quinter Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m.
Decatur Community is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game last Tuesday. They received a blow as they fell 62-47 to Norton. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 210th, while the Bluejays are ranked 59th).
Decatur Community's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Tyler Ostmeyer, who went 8-for-10 en route to 21 points and six boards, and Brycen Ketterl, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 14 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 44.7% of Decatur Community's points, marking the third time in a row Ostmeyer has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Davin Jensen, who earned no points along with eight assists and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Quinter came tearing into Monday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 45-40 W against the Golden Eagles.
Decatur Community better focus on containing Gunner Catura and Caedmon Bridges as the pair were huge in Quinter's win. Catura had 18 points, while Bridges went 5-for-10 to rack up 11 points in addition to seven blocks and six boards. Bridges is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Colt Werth, who put up two points and nine rebounds.
Quinter's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points over those games. As for Decatur Community, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Things could have been worse for Decatur Community, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-36 loss to Quinter when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Decatur Community avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
