The Lamesa Tornadoes will square off against the Stanton Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lamesa is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
On Monday, Lamesa came up short against Crane and fell 7-3.
Lamesa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Moreno, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Stanton had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Coahoma 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Gage McCown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Stanton let Nate Hinojosa and Nathan Armendarez run wild. Hinojosa went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Armendarez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Stanton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Stanton's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 13-8. As for Lamesa, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lamesa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Stanton struggles in that department as they've averaged .374. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lamesa was able to grind out a solid victory over Stanton when the teams last played on March 9th, winning 5-2. Do the Tornadoes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
