Basketball Recap: Mineral Ridge's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

After flying high against McKinley last Friday, Mineral Ridge came back down to earth. The Mineral Ridge Rams took a 73-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chaney Cowboys on Friday. The Rams' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Mineral Ridge lost, don't look at Ava Hulett. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds. Hulett's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sullivan Sandy, who posted 13 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Mineral Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Chaney found their leader in sophomore Alyssa Brown, who dropped a double-double on 40 points and 13 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexandria Pete, who put up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Mineral Ridge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Chaney, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mineral Ridge will host Western Reserve at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Western Reserve will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Mineral Ridge surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chaney, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Champion at 7:00 p.m. on December 30th. Chaney is facing Champion at the right time seeing as Champion is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
