Crown Point has gone 8-2 against Lafayette Jefferson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Bronchos at 11:00 a.m. Crown Point will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Crown Point made up a huge gap compared to their last game against McCutcheon, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs never let the Mavericks get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Crown Point got a great performance from Riley Ackerman as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Noah Ehrlich, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jase Horton, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Crown Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lafayette Jefferson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Chesterton 6-5. The Bronchos haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Nate Hilsabeck tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Peyton Parker was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Alonzo Clawson-Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Lafayette Jefferson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Crown Point, their record now sits at 5-1.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Crown Point has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .495. However, it's not like Lafayette Jefferson struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Crown Point took their win against Lafayette Jefferson in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Bronchos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
