The Pasquotank County Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Martin County Gators at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasquotank County has given up an average of 49.9 points per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pasquotank County is headed into Monday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight losses. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of First Flight on Friday.
Despite the defeat, Pasquotank County got top-tier performance from Branden Smith, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jayon Harris, who posted 12 points.
Meanwhile, Martin County came tearing into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 57-43 win over the Pirates. The Gators pushed the score to 55-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirates cut but never quite recovered from.
Martin County's win came from a few key players that Pasquotank County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jayden Moore, who shot 62% from the field en route to 21 points and seven steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in December of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Matthewson, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards.
Martin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.
Pasquotank County's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Martin County, their record now sits at 18-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Pasquotank County hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.5 points per game. However, it's not like Martin County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 64.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Pasquotank County ended up a good deal behind Martin County in their previous meeting back in January, losing 54-38. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
