The Havre de Grace Warriors can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 49-20 blowout they got on the road against Elkton. Given Havre de Grace's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Elkton is ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Azareya Whiting, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Ryleigh Curry was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Elkton saw an underclassman step up: Madison Wright scored three points along with two steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Elkton struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Havre de Grace, bringing their record for this year to 7-3. As for Elkton, they bumped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Havre de Grace will take on Aberdeen at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Elkton, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against C. Milton Wright at 6:00 p.m.
