Carver Montgomery has won four straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Central has won four straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Wolverines will host the Red Devils at 8:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carver Montgomery lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Enterprise, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Wolverines simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Wildcats 49-14. With the Wolverines ahead 36-7 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Carver Montgomery can attribute much of their success to Zion Crumpton, who threw for 158 yards and two TDs on only 12 passes, and Elijah Tarver, who rushed for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries.
Carver Montgomery's run defense was locked in: Enterprise could only muster 3.3 yards per carry. The Wolverines didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.1.
Meanwhile, Central faced Auburn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Red Devils blew past the Tigers 36-0. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Red Devils had established a 31-point advantage.
A big part of Central's victory came down to the chemistry between Bobby Coleman and his top target Braylen Averett. Coleman threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per attempt while Averett picked up 102 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Averett showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 65 yards. Central also got a significant boost from Jayshaun Woodhouse, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 98 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Central's defense and their 7.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Tristan Lyles and Jeremiah Moore, who racked up five sacks between them. Lyles is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played. Marcus Price was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks and making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Carver Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Central, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
