Lely and Palmetto Ridge are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but likely not for long. The Lely Trojans will head out to face off against the Palmetto Ridge Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lely hasn't scored more than two runs for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Lely managed to slip by Aubrey Rogers the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Lely came up short against Aubrey Rogers on Tuesday, falling 12-2.
Lely saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Herzog, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Palmetto Ridge made sure to put some runs up on the board against Immokalee on Tuesday. Palmetto Ridge put the hurt on Immokalee with a sharp 17-2 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Bears this season.
Greg Corrasco made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Tommy Cox was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season. Gerson Gonargo was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Palmetto Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
The victory made it two in a row for Palmetto Ridge and bumps their season record up to 3-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Lely, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
Lely took their win against Palmetto Ridge when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-4. Will Lely repeat their success, or does Palmetto Ridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
