The Archbishop Wood Vikings will square off against the Cardinal O'Hara Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop Wood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Archbishop Wood sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over St. Joseph's Prep.
Brady Sell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, AJ Hopkins was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs. Another player making a difference was Chase Cavallaro, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Cardinal O'Hara and Lansdale Catholic had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Lions came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 12-8 on Sunday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their one-run performance the match before.
The team relied heavily on Jack Quinn, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendan Till, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
Cardinal O'Hara kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Cardinal O'Hara pushed their record up to 6-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Archbishop Wood, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Archbishop Wood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cardinal O'Hara struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Archbishop Wood took their win against Cardinal O'Hara in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
