The Aztec Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Shiprock Chieftains at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Aztec focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
Even though Aztec has not done well against Bloomfield recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way. Aztec snuck past Bloomfield with a 29-25 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Aztec.
Bailey Clarence and Jazzlyn Gomez were among the main playmakers for Aztec as the former scored five points along with 11 rebounds and three steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Shiprock's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 71-31 loss at the hands of Kirtland Central. Shiprock has not had much luck with Kirtland Central recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Aztec now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Shiprock, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Aztec didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Shiprock in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 32-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Aztec since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
