Rocklyn Marcum made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chelsie Jeffrey, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Rindy Perkins, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Doddridge County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against Braxton County on Monday as they made off with a 14-2 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Madison Curran and Isabella Holtz did most of the damage at the plate: Curran went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Holtz went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. That triple was Curran's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Pratt, who went 1-for-3 with three runs.
Ritchie County's record now sits at 16-4-1. As for Doddridge County, their record is now 24-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ritchie County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Doddridge County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ritchie County took their win against Doddridge County in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 11-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
