St. Stephens is 7-2 against West Iredell since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The St. Stephens Indians will be home for the holidays to greet the West Iredell Warriors at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Stephens has four straight wins, West Iredell has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, St. Stephens beat Maiden 54-47. Given St. Stephens' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Maiden is ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Stephens' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Aubrey Gibbs, who scored 17 points along with five steals, and Molli Harris, who scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and eight steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Harris has scored at least 25% of St. Stephens' points. Kennedy Blevins was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Iredell was beaten by Bunker Hill 61-27 on Wednesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Iredell in their matchups with Bunker Hill: they've now lost eight in a row.
St. Stephens' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for West Iredell, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Everything came up roses for St. Stephens against West Iredell in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 67-29 win. Does St. Stephens have another victory up their sleeve, or will West Iredell turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
