Morgantown has gone 9-1 against John Marshall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Mohigans are taking a road trip to take on the Monarchs at 5:00 p.m. Morgantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Morgantown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Spring Valley, who was ranked sixth at the time (Morgantown was ranked 12th). The Mohigans fell just short of the Timberwolves by a score of 11-10 on Saturday. The Mohigans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Morgantown got a massive performance out of Jackson Bredeson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Ryan Nipper also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.
Meanwhile, John Marshall came up short against Cabell Midland on Saturday and fell 11-6.
John Marshall also got a good showing from Kain Ankrom, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Mason Markonich and Kayden Knapp did some serious damage despite the final result: Markonich scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Knapp went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Cain Martin was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Morgantown's record now sits at 3-3. As for John Marshall, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Morgantown has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like John Marshall struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Morgantown's way against John Marshall in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Morgantown made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mohigans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
