It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Freedom Area had no problem doing just that  on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  an  8-7  victory over the Laurel Spartans. The  win was familiar territory for the Bulldogs, who have now won four  matchups in a row.
 Xavier Robbins made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he  pitched two innings while giving up   no  earned runs off   two  hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box,  going 3-for-4 with two  runs and one  RBI.
 In other batting news, Freedom Area let  Nick Fessler and  Colton Blank run wild. Fessler  went 2-for-4 with two  runs and one  double, while  Blank  went 2-for-4 with three  RBI. That's the most  hits  Fessler has posted since back in March.
Freedom Area's victory was  their sixth straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 14-7. The  home  wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Laurel, they moved to 11-11 with that  loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Freedom Area nor the Spartans have any future games scheduled.
