East Duplin will head out on the road to take on North Johnston at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Duplin is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
On Friday, East Duplin was able to grind out a solid win over Heide Trask, taking the game 7-4.
The team relied heavily on Gavin Holmes, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Marshburn, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Johnston). Everything went their way against Eastern Wayne on Monday as they made off with a 32-2 victory. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Ty Hinton and Cameron Willoughby made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hinton pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Willoughby pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. At the plate, Hinton got on base in three of his six plate appearances with four runs and one RBI, while Willoughby went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, North Johnston got a massive performance out of Seth Scott, who fired off three runs, three doubles, and four RBI while going 4-for-6. Scott has become a key player for the Panthers: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Levi Lamonaco was another key player, going 3-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
North Johnston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .521. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
East Duplin's record now sits at 8-1. As for North Johnston, their record is now 7-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. East Duplin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Johnston struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
